An inside look at how my business has evolved over time, and why you should start (and finish) your book this year
Since my humble beginnings as a proofreader, my business has evolved every year and now includes a full suite of editing services plus book coaching. These changes were informed largely by my clients, whose needs were diverse on the surface, but they all boiled down to one core desire: the courage to publish.
At first, as a proofreader, I trumpeted the elimination of manuscript errors as a vehicle for consistency and clarity, and thus confidence. My very first client needed even more. Ever since, each author I have worked with has asked me to champion their ideas in different ways, like developmental editing and coaching. They all needed to feel their manuscript was FINALLY DONE and give themselves “permission” to publish.
I’ve tried on a great many taglines in my time, but what feels good today is “Build the courage to write and publish.” In a nutshell, the transformation I provide is to START and FINISH your manuscript. You’ll find everything you need to develop, write, and refine a book for your brand or business, and when we’re done working together, you’ll know that the final draft is ready for publishing.
I’m in love with my offers and how I deliver them! In an age when editing and proofreading don’t seem like glamorous ways to earn a living, I’m on a mission to ELEVATE what it means to support authors.
Communication is key to how I work—I’m over the whole “waiting forever to hear back because the editor takes on a bunch of long-term projects at once” thing. I make it a point to prove to my clients that I am indeed working on their manuscripts. You’ll get regular cheerful updates from me. It’s just being a good human.
Similarly, devotion is necessary to my process. I strongly believe in taking on only one project at a time. This not only mitigates the cost of my context switching, making me more efficient, but it’s fair to the author too. How supported would you feel by an editor if your manuscript were one of five being revised at once, versus the only one? Your writing deserves my undivided attention.
Along the way, I’ve heard from countless authors that TIME is foremost on their minds when it comes to hiring an editor for their manuscript. Those with a manuscript ready for editing told me they didn’t like typical editing turnaround time. These authors knew the faster they could publish their book, the faster they could start making more impact and more money from it. Those who hadn’t started their manuscripts yet told me they just couldn’t find the time…
In response, I innovated my services, drawing my ideas and strategy from outside my industry to be able to serve you from my highest self. My two high-touch service offers are:
- the VIP Day to get your next book outlined in 7-8 hours, and
- the VIP Week to get your book refined and ready for formatting in just 1 week.
Soon, I’ll be announcing a third offer: Voxer editing (as it’s still coming together, DM me on LinkedIn if you want to know more). All these services are designed to save time without sacrificing quality: a win-win for my clients and for myself.

As for my industry, authors and editors alike are wondering how to remain profitable and impactful in the constantly changing economic, political, and public health landscapes.
These external ups and downs should never deter you from starting or finishing your book. Despite whatever is going on in the world, the authors who are successful are creating a powerful core message for their book, strategically marketing it, and keeping the faith. It’s how you use the power of your thoughts that will determine your success.
Remember, books are timeless. People are still reading books (aren’t YOU?). And in fact, it’s smart to have a low-ticket book for new leads to discover your brand or business. I’ve worked with first-time authors who already have a business and who wrote a book to generate more leads and make a bigger impact, and I’ve worked with first-time authors who start with a book in order to build their business or brand. Both approaches are impactful and profitable.
Ultimately, my clients will always be the ones informing the evolution of my book coaching and editing business, not trends or gimmicks or the economy. I’m holding space for your next book because I truly believe in making your mission accessible to more people for more impact and more profit.
I feel more energized than EVER about my book coaching and editing business, and I can’t wait to see what incredible work my clients will publish this year. I’m ramping things up, brainstorming ways to serve even more aspiring and established authors make an impact in their fields with their very own brand book.
If you’re passionate about crafting a book for your brand or business, I’m here to support you through high-touch coaching and editing. Let’s make THIS the year you finally write that magnetic brand book!
